Born on March 30, 2000, in Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), Lungelihle Zwane, professionally known as Uncle Waffles, is a DJ and record producer who has significantly impacted the global music scene. Raised by her grandmother, she later reconnected with her mother during her teenage years, though their relationship remained complex. Her early musical influences included South African house and kwaito artists like Black Coffee, Lebo Mathosa, and DJ Kent. Before her rise in music, she worked as a television presenter on Eswatini TV's Studio1, where she was introduced to DJing by a colleague. 

Career Beginnings and Rise to Fame

Uncle Waffles began learning to DJ in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdowns, dedicating up to eight hours daily to practice. Her breakthrough came in October 2021 when a video of her dancing to Young Stunna's "Adiwele" during a set at Soweto's Zone 6 nightclub went viral. This exposure led to international recognition, including a follow from Canadian rapper Drake on Instagram.

In March 2022, Uncle Waffles released her debut single "Tanzania," which topped South African charts and was certified 7× platinum. Her debut EP, "Red Dragon," followed shortly after. She continued to gain international acclaim, performing at major festivals like Coachella in 2023, where she became the first amapiano artist to perform. Her subsequent EPs, "Asylum" and "Solace," showcased her versatility and were well-received, with "Asylum" achieving gold status within a week of release.
